
Hanks his next role - astronaut and commander Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - reunited him with Ron Howard. The film was widely lauded by critics in addition to the performances of the whole ensemble (which included Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) as well as Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nominations for the Academy Awards nine times, and it took home two. Later in the year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. He made his directorial debut a year later in The Thing You Do! The story follows the fall and the rise of a rock group. Hanks also performs the role of a music producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine called his performance "charming" and the majority of people who reviewed it agreed that Hanks role in the film earned him a spot among the best romantic comedy actors of his time.
